Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku

This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) represents an old village in the mountains. This painting represents autumn and it is depicted by a huge tree with orange leaves.  In the background, there is a magestuous mountain looking like Mount Fuji. Some humans and a horse are also painted. The original artwork is called Akibare No Zu (秋霽之図) by Meiji-Showa period artist Yamamoto Shunkyo. This piece is not signed.

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
