Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku
This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features a dog sitting and wearing a red ruffle collar. The dog is painted at the bottom of the scroll and it is looking up to something, possibly a spider. This piece is signed and has red seals. It has inscriptions on the outside of the scroll.
Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
