Vtg Japanese Clay Doll Statue Ningyo
This is a vintage Japanese clay doll Tsuchi-Ningyo. A geisha wearing a red kimono and holding something like a Shishi-lion. Clay dolls are local traditional crafts that have been made nationwide since the Edo period. Lucky charms such as warding off sickness and disasters, bringing good luck, bountiful harvests, and prosperous business. There are many kinds, such as Girl's Day dolls, Boy's Day dolls, Samurai warriors, geisha, princesses, etc...
