Vtg Japanese Clay Bell Dorei
This is a vintage Japanese clay bell, Dorei or Tsuchi-Suzu, in the shape of a classic bell. It is small and mostly white with a cluster of handprinted blue hydrangeas with leaves on one side. It has a small brown ball inside and a red string attached to the top via a loop.
Dorei bells have a long history and have been used in festivals and ceremonies since the Jomon period (about 13000 to 2300 years ago) when they were said to have the power to ward off evil spirits.
