Vintage Japanese Ceramic Bell Dorei
This is a vintage Japanese ceramic bell, or dorei. It is in the shape of an old station bell Ekirei and is coated in a green glaze. It has a small white clay ball inside and a yellow string tied at the top. Kanji letters are on the sides.
Dorei bells have a long history and have been used in festivals and ceremonies since the Jomon period (about 13000 to 2300 years ago) when they were said to have the power to ward off evil spirits.
