Vintage Japanese Buddhist Altar Fitting Lacquer Offering Table
This is a vintage Japanese Buddhist altar offering table (Maejoku). It is coated in a glossy black lacquer with gold-painted accents. On the front side has carved peonies painted gold. It contains a removable top panel with gold on the front edge and a red lacquered underside.
In the case of memorial services, a piece of cloth called Uchishiki is inserted between the base and top piece. There are two types of offering tables Maejoku and Uwajoku. Maejoku is placed in front of the Shumidan. It is used for 3 Gusoku (candle stand, flower vase, and incense burner). Uwajoku is placed in front of Amidanyorai. It is used for a flower vase, a rice cup, and a kasha incense burner.

- Good condition considering age. Some scratches and lacquer wear and chipping in some places (namely the front side of the top panel. Some brass plates are bent on the edges. Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos.
