Japanese Wooden Mokusho Buddhist Percussion Drum Instrument
This is a vintage Japanese wood block drum, or mokusho, typically used at Buddhist altars and during ceremonies for keeping rhythm while chanting sutra. It is a round percussion instrument on three legs made of solid wood that has a bright, assertive sound when hit with its wooden ball striker/mallet.
