Japanese Buddhist Altar Fitting Shokudai Candle Stand 

This is a large pair of vintage Japanese vintage brass candle stands, Shokudai. Candlesticks with a crane and turtle motif are used by some sects of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism. In Japanese Buddhism, the candle stand is a basic tool used in most sects. In the Buddhist world, the light that shines warmth in the darkness has been considered the light of Buddha's wisdom and mercy.
This set can be disassembled into six pieces.

  • Approx. 11 cm long x 7 cm wide x 36 cm tall
  • Good condition considering age. Some tarnish and oxidization. Has been previously repaired (where the bird's beak meets the flower stem on one). Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos.
