Vtg Japanese Buddhist Altar Butsudan Doors
This is a 2-piece set of outer doors coming from a Japanese vintage wooden Buddhist altar cabinet. The two doors, a total of four tall panels, showcase a reddish brown lacquer on the front with gorgeous bronze metal embellishments, while the back side is black lacquer with gilt gold leaf decorating the centers of each panel. There are brass peony metal plates on the border. The front latch features an embossed image of birds with flowers and pine trees.
In Japan, the Buddhist altar is a place to enshrine the principal image that is the center of faith, and is a sacred place to hold memorial services for ancestors as a "small temple in the home".
