Vtg Japanese Buddhist Offering Stand Kuge 6pc With Wood Box

This is a vintage Japanese set of 6 offering stands Kuge and their storage wood box. This gorgeous set consists of 6 octogonal lacquered wooden stands in gold and black with various floral cut-outs. Each Kuge stand consists of two pieces: the top part and the bottom part. All six offering stands are stored in a dedicated lidded wood box opening vertically with black inscriptions in Japanese on the lid.

Kuge offering stands are Buddhist altar-fitting stands to display offering rice cakes, fruits, Rakugan sweets, etc... mainly used by the Jodo Shinshu Honganji sect.

  • Each stand approx. 10 cm wide x 15 cm tall (wood box approx. 36 cm long x 15.5 cm wide x 14.6 cm tall)
  • Good condition considering its age. Marks. Lacquer missing in some spots. Part of the lid is loose. Crack on the back of the box. Other wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos carefully.
