Japanese Ceramic Incense Burner, Koro
This is a vintage Japanese Buddhist ceramic incense burner (koro) commonly used in Buddhist altars. It has a black glaze with a brown rim with a stout shape and flat bottom. There are two small raised bumps on either side for subtle decoration. It is used for burning incense powder or sticks. Burning incense is a means of purifying the body of the worshiper.
