Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku W/ Wooden Box

This vintage Japanese boxed hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features the portrait of a man, Tajimamori, known as the God of Sweets or the God of Citrus. Tajimamori is standing and holding a branch with fruits, likely tachibana oranges. He is dressed in Kofun period style clothing. The scroll is signed with a name and a red seal. The lid of the matching wooden box has inscriptions on the outside and the inside.

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
