Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku W/ Wooden Box

This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features a black-and-white picture of a landscape with mountains and fog in the background, a river in the foreground, and a house with a watermill at the center. It is a classic Siuboku Sansui piece, a landscape with mountains and water painted in black ink. It is signed and has a red seal. It is stored in a wooden box with the title on the lid, and there is an extra storage box made of light cardboard. 

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
