Japanese Soroban Abacus Calculator Tool
This is a vintage Japanese abacus or soroban. It is a mathematics calculating tool and is considered the first calculator in Japan. The Japanese abacus is different from the parent Chinese version. It has a top section of single beads and a bottom of stacked beads, usually five. At the center is one unmarked stack used for decimal places for more complicated calculations. Many primary schools all over Japan still use these as well as for scorekeeping.
This soroban is made of dark brown wood. It is in excellent working order.
