Antique Japanese Buddhist Altar Fitting Lacquer Offering Table
This is a large antique Japanese Buddhist altar offering table (Maejoku). It is coated in a gold and black lacquer with gold-painted accents. On the front side has carved chrysanthemums painted gold. It contains a removable, winged top panel with gold on the front edge with red on the top.
In the case of memorial services, a piece of cloth called Uchishiki is inserted between the base and top piece. There are two types of offering tables Maejoku and Uwajoku. Maejoku is placed in front of the Shumidan. It is used for 3 Gusoku (candle stand, flower vase, and incense burner). Uwajoku is placed in front of Amidanyorai. It is used for a flower vase, a rice cup, and a kasha incense burner.

- Fair condition considering age. Large hole on top piece. Lacquer peeling on removable top piece and underneath. Wing on one end is separating from base. Dark marks, stains, and discoloration. Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos.
