Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku
This antique Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) represents a bird flying above sasa bamboo leaves. This type of kakejiku is called kacho in Japanese, meaning birds and flowers. This piece is signed with a name.
Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. It was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan and has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room, and Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
