Japanese Lidded Wooden Storage Box Set
Wooden boxes are a common method of safely keeping and storing delicate pottery, vases, and other ceramic, clay, and glass items in Japan. In addition to pottery, they are also widely used for a plethora of other traditional Japanese crafts including kimono accessories, wrapping cloths, chopsticks, commemorative gifts, etc, and even food.
This is a handcrafted pair of shallow stacking boxes with a lid. The two boxes sit evenly on top of one another (without brackets) and the lid fits loosely on top held on by two wooden brackets on the inside. The handles on the side are carved in a simple wave design and there are metal rivets holding the sides together. There is no writing on the box so it is perfect for general storage, DIY, and decoration.
