Vintage Japanese Ceramic Tanuki Statue
This is a vintage ceramic tanuki (raccoon dog) statue. It is hand-sculpted and uses a rustic dark brown and beige glaze. Tanuki are a popular symbol of success and good luck, and are often found outside businesses. Like on most statues of this kind, the tanuki is holding a bankbook or ledger in one hand. There is supposed to be a sake bottle in the other hand, but this piece is missing (there is a hole for where it attaches).
