Vtg Japanese Ceramic Tokoname Ware Statue 

This is a Japanese Tokoname ware ceramic statue of a rat. The rat is standing on its rear and is holding a ribbon streamer in its hands. The base of the figurine is squared and the color is the typically Tokoname ware reddish brown. 

Rat (Mouse), or nezumi, is one of the twelve signs of Japanese Zodiac (Junishi). There is a sign for each year and a full cycle is repeated after 12 years. It is common to display the year's sign in the entrance or in the living room in Japan.
