Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku
This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) is a yearly calendar from 1981. It features a picture of a man carrying an elderly person on his back. Below the picture, there is a phrase in Japanese translated in English "Be kind to your parents and the aged".
Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
