Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku W/ Wooden Box
This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features a picture of a two beautiful cranes standing on a thick pine tree branch and looking at a round orange-red sun. Cranes (tsuru), pine trees (matsu), and a red sun are good fortune symbols in Japanese culture. The piece is signed and has a red seal. It is stored in a wooden box with a title on the lid and the artist's name and red seal on the inside of the lid.
Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
