Vintage Japanese Nanbu Tekki Cast Iron Kettle
This is a vintage Japanese Nambu tekki cast iron kettle, Tetsubin. It has a dotted "arare" pattern throughout as well as a pinecone handle on the lid. The handle is fixed to the body and cannot be folded. A kettle with a handle and a spout was used for medicinal purposes in the 13th century, but it is said that it was named 'Tetsubin' and began to be used in tea ceremonies in the late Edo period. Efficacy: Boiling water in an iron kettle (Tetsubin) makes the water milder and tastier, as well as providing iron.
