Antique Japanese Nanbu Tekki Cast Iron Kettle
This is an antique Japanese miniature Nambu tekki cast iron kettle, or Tetsubin. It has a dotted "arare" pattern on the top with a banded design on the sides and a simple handle. The handle is movable and the lid has a decorative floral finial ball at the top.
Tetsubin began to be used in tea ceremonies in the late Edo period. Efficacy: Boiling water in an iron kettle makes the water milder and tastier, as well as providing iron to nourish the body.
