Vintage Japanese Matchstick Disposal Jar for Buddhist Altar
This item is a vintage porcelain matchstick extinguisher jar (hikeshi) made for use as an altar fitting in a Japanese Buddhist altar. It is a tool that can safely extinguish a fire by inserting a used matchstick into the hole in the lid. It has a light blue glaze with a small round lid. It has a lotus flower petal motif at the bottom and little decorative handles on the sides.
