Vtg Japanese Buddhist Altar Butsudan Parts
This item is a set of two decorative pillars originally part of a Japanese vintage wooden Buddhist altar cabinet. These two cylinder-like parts are made of wood, painted in black and gold lacquer, and decorated with brass metal pieces representing leaves, flowers and other natural elements. It includes two removable lacquered wood rings on the end.
In Japan, the Buddhist altar is a place to enshrine the principal image that is the center of faith, and is a sacred place to hold memorial services for ancestors as a "small temple in the home".
Acquired in an estate sale in Gifu, Japan
