Vtg Japanese Lacquered Lidded Fumibako Letter Box
This is a Japanese lacquered wooden letter box (fumibako). It is traditionally used to store letters, small books, important documents, paper, and other stationery items.
It is also often used for Buddhist items, such as altar prayer books, prayer beads, charms, and for incense storage.
This classic caramel-brown Shunkei-nuri lacquer piece is lightweight and a beautiful decorative and functional addition to any home or office space. It has angled sides and features a pine needle-and-wave design on the lid, both considered lucky. There is a fabric pasted on the inside bottom, with a green hexagonal pattern and red circles of two Ho-oh wings spread. It comes with an original paper box.
