Antique Japanese Buddhist Altar Butsudan Part
This item is a decorative ranma border part from a Japanese antique wooden Buddhist altar cabinet. This gorgeous piece is lacquered black with gold paint and brass metal embellishments with floral designs. The main feature is a collection of intricately carved wooden clouds and pine trees as well as a bird that appears to be a simplified version of Ho-oh. There is incredible 3D depth to the design of this piece and is visually interesting to look at. Use it as a replacement part or as decoration. Ranma allow light and air to pass through as well as add decorative detail to not only butsudan home altars, but also between room in traditional Japanese homes and palaces.
In Japan, the Buddhist altar is a place to enshrine the principal image that is the center of faith, and is a sacred place to hold memorial services for ancestors as a "small temple in the home".
