Vtg Japanese Buddhist Altar Butsudan Doors
This is a 2-piece set of outer doors coming from a Japanese vintage wooden Buddhist altar cabinet. The two doors, a total of four tall panels, showcase a glossy brown brushed lacquer. There are stunning bronze plate embellishments and front latch that depict numerous chrysanthemum and two large embossed images of Ho-oh, the mythical phoenix often seen among Buddhist motifs. It comes with a few small screws.
In Japan, the Buddhist altar is a place to enshrine the principal image that is the center of faith, and is a sacred place to hold memorial services for ancestors as a "small temple in the home".
