Vtg Japanese Boys' Day Samurai Battle Surcoat
This is a vintage Japanese jinbaori, a sleeveless coat worn by samurai over their armor on the battlefield. This surcoat is navy with a pattern with dragons and clouds in gold. There are orange pieces of fabric with a floral pattern on the front. This piece can be displayed on the stand instead of a Gogatsu-Ningyo but it is designed to be worn by small children. This jinbaori warrior surcoat comes with a storage box.
Gogatsu-Ningyo (May dolls) are amulets wishing for the health and growth of children that are displayed during the Boys' Festival. Other items such as armor decorations, helmet decorations, and warrior dolls (warlords) are also popular.
