Vintage Japanese Wagasa Umbrella
Whether paired with a beautiful kimono or in the hands of an elegant Geisha, Japanese traditional umbrellas (wagasa) are a popular fashion accessory as well as an eye-catching home decor piece.
The main design of this parasol is flowers in red and faded blue with subtly colored leaf and petal silhouettes. The headpiece at the very top is a paper-covered cap painted with black. The inner frame is tied together with pink string and the outer ribs are plain bamboo strips. The handle is made of slender solid wood with a brown lacquered bell-shaped end piece. This item is unique in that it is made for a child.
