Vintage Japanese Porcelain Small Plate, Mamezara
This is a vintage Japanese porcelain plate. This round, small plate, also called mamezara, is mostly a cheery yellow with black dots. At the very center features a hyotan gourd often associated with luck and in the center of the gourd is a pine tree. It is a vibrant example of kutani ware pottery and is from the seikou kiln. Mamezara are tiny plates in a Japanese tableware set that typically hold dipping sauces such as soy sauce, garnishes, and other condiments. It is also the perfect size for holding small jewelry.
We got this item at an antique auction in Tajimi in Gifu, Japan.
