This is a vintage Japanese ceramic plate. This round, small plate, also called mamezara, is white with a blue and green design of pine trees and a playing child of Tang Dynasty China (karako), a popular decorative motif in Japan that symbolizes longevity and health for children. Mamezara are tiny plates in a Japanese tableware set that typically hold dipping sauces such as soy sauce, garnishes, and other condiments. It is also the perfect size for holding small jewelry.
