Vintage Japanese Katagami of the Steps to Hase Temple w/ Wood Frame
In a brown wood frame, this katagami textile stencil displays the image of two people climbing the steps of Hasedera (a buddhist temple). The name of the location is seen on a stone lantern on the left side. Laid on a blue and orange-colored shikishi board, green and metallic paper is layered behind to give certain elements emphasis.
While katagami is typically used for printing images on fabrics such as kimono, it has become a popular item to frame and or further decorate for wall art. As such, its intricate designs made by hand-cutting the paper make it an interesting piece to use in home and office decor.
The katagami is adhered to a shikishi board behind it.
