Vintage Japanese Buddhist Incense Container Kogo
This is a vintage Japanese incense container, or Kogo, used in Buddhist altars. A kogo is a small container with a lid and is used for keeping powder-type or woodchip-type incense for Buddhist ceremonies. It is carved from wood with a ring pattern and is a rich dark brown color brushed with a clear lacquer coat. The lid fits flush and freely at the top.
