Vtg. Japanese Brushed Lacquered Wooden Tansu Storage Chest

This is a vintage Japanese storage chest, also called tansu. Dark brown with a clear brushed lacquer coat, this sizable, cube-shaped chest has three similarily-sized drawers with no hardware. The insides of the drawers are unlined. It features a gorgeous carved design of the traditional depiction of pine trees (matsu). This beautiful tansu chest can be used for storing sewing supplies (as a haribako), jewelry, hobby supplies, or other trinkets.
