Vintage Japanese Wood Lacquered Base With Soft Pillow
This is a vintage Japanese neck rest or pillow called takamakura. This neck rest consists of a base made of lacquered wood on which sits a soft pillow made of silk. The base features a red, brown and gold marble design with some metal embellishments and the pillow is red with two white strings on the sides.
A neck rest, or Takamakura, is a support stand for the neck designed to keep hair intact while sleeping or resting and was used by the Japanese traditional female entertainers, the Geisha, to preserve their outstanding hair.

- Good condition. Base: some lacquer peels, a crack in the lacquer (bottom), scratches and marks. Pillow: discolorations, stains, silk is worn, tear on the back. Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos carefully.
