Vintage Japanese Wooden Signboard

This is a vintage Japanese wooden signboard made to be placed outside a restaurant or business. There are black kanji characters written vertically on the board and say “Closed Today” (本日休業 honjitsu kyuugyou). This type of sign is common even today as well as signs that let customers know it is “open for business” or in the case of restaurants “preparing” in between lunch and dinner services. There is a hole at the top one can put on a hook or tie a piece of string or cord to.
