Vintage Japanese Paper Uchiwa Fan w/Box

This is a Japanese vintage paper fan or Uchiwa. Uchiwa is a traditional fan tool typically made of wood or bamboo and paper in a flat paddle-like shape. This particular fan is from the department store Takashimaya and features a Toshio Matsuo print of a large sea bird over a crashing ocean waves background called “Sound of Waves”. For hanging on the wall, this piece includes a light blue woven silk wall hanger. It has a carved wooden handle and contains the original box.
