Vtg Japanese Inro Portable Container
This is an imitation of the Japanese portable container, Inro. Inro is a small container for carrying medicines. At first, it was called Inro (In means seal) because it was used to put a seal in it. It was a practical tool used as a portable container for medicine, but later it was transformed into a work of art. It was used by hooking the netsuke on the obi of the kimono and hanging it. The design is a crane and Aoi crest with a pavilion. The netsuke is a wooden little gourd.
