Chinese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku

This vintage chinese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features a winter scenery with a boat on a river under falling snow. There are plants in the foreground and mountains in the background. 

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. It was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan and has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room, and Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
