Vtg Japanese Boys’ Day Samurai Doll

This is a vintage Japanese gogatsu-ningyo samurai doll used for display during the boys’ festival in May. This doll wears a gorgeous gold, dark blue, orange and red kimono, holds a traditional sword as well as a kabuto helmet. It also has a big headpiece with flowers and other traditional symbols. There was once a framed glass cover over the top of the wooden base, but it is missing. The original string wrapping the glass case is included. This doll comes with a storage box. 

Gogatsu-Ningyo (May dolls) are amulets wishing for the health and growth of children that are displayed during the Boys’ Festival. Other items such as armor decorations, helmet decorations, and warrior dolls (warlords) are also popular.
