Vintage Japanese Katagami of Tsuru Cranes Flying w/ Plastic Frame
In a black and gold plastic frame, this katagami textile stencil made of mulberry paper displays the image of three tsuru (cranes). Tsuru are elegant birds that symbolize longevity and good fortune. It has been laid on a light pink shikishi board and over metallic silver and sparkling red paper in some places for emphasis.
While katagami is typically used for printing images on fabrics such as kimono, it has become a popular item to frame and or further decorate for wall art. As such, its intricate designs made by hand-cutting the paper make it a gorgeous piece to use in home and office decor.
The katagami is adhered to the shikishi board.
