Japanese Brass Incense Burner
This is a vintage Japanese Buddhist brass incense burner (koro) commonly used in Buddhist altars. It is brass with a gradient color from, gold to brown. It is a chalice shape with a slotted lid on the tip complete with small finial handle. It has the crane-shaped Nishiren Shoshu sect mon on the front. There is a green felt pad on the bottom to protect delicate surfaces from scratching. It is used for burning incense powder or sticks. Burning incense is a means of purifying the body of the worshiper.
