Vtg Japanese Spiritual Tablet Ihai

This is a vintage Japanese black lacquered wood ihai, or mortuary spiritual tablet. It features the Dharma name or kaimyo, a posthumous name given to dead people, on the front. The name is almost erased but still partially visible. This tablet was once embellished with gold foil, now tarnished.

Ihai mortuary tablets are usually placed inside butsudan Buddhist altars in Japanese houses.

• Approx. 12.5 cm tall x 4.5 cm long x 9.5 cm wide 
• Good condition. Discoloration and oxidation (gold foil). Name mostly erased. Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos carefully.
