Vintage Japanese Wooden Decorative Plaque
This vintage Japanese wooden souvenir plaque features the calligraphy of the famous shrine Kotohiragu in Kagawa on the island of Shikoku. It has calligraphy on the back. This plaque has a red and white braided cord and a small bell.
Ema is a small wooden plaque used at Shinto shrines, and sometimes Buddhist temples, that worshipers can write their wishes, hopes, and dreams on. Once written, it is hung on a special wooden stand or tree where the kami (spirits or gods) are thought to receive them.
