Vintage Japanese Wooden Decorative Plaque

This vintage Japanese wooden souvenir plaque features a poem about Dogashima, an island in western Izu. The poem is illustrated with a white, green and black picture of the island. It has inscriptions on the back. This plaque has a purple and white braided cord and a small bell.

Ema is a small wooden plaque used at Shinto shrines, and sometimes Buddhist temples, that worshipers can write their wishes, hopes, and dreams on. Once written, it is hung on a special wooden stand or tree where the kami (spirits or gods) are thought to receive them.
