Vintage Japanese Wooden Shrine Plaque, Ema

This vintage Japanese ema plaque has a picture of a green dragon holding a yellow ball in one of its hands. It also includes other graphic elements such as a folding fan with an orange sun and floral elements. It also has some inscriptions. It has an orange braided cord.

Ema is a small wooden plaque used at Shinto, and sometimes Buddhist shrines, that worshipers can write their wishes, hopes, and dreams on. Once written, it is hung on a special wooden stand or tree where the kami (spirits or gods) are thought to receive them.
