Vintage Japanese Wooden Shrine Plaque, Ema
Ema is a small wooden plaque used at Shinto, and sometimes Buddhist shrines, that worshippers can write their wishes, hopes, and dreams on. Once written, it is hung on a special wooden stand or tree where the kami (spirits or gods) are thought to receive them.
This ema plaque has a picture of a white sheep in front of a golden folding fan with a rising sun. It also includes plum blossom, pine, and bamboo imagery (shochikubai). It has a bright red braided cord and a pair of metal bells attached with a yellow string.
