Vintage Japanese Wooden Shrine Plaque, Ema
This vintage Japanese ema plaque has a picture of a woman writing a poem and standing next to a sitting black bull or ox. A shrine can be seen in the background. It has a red seal and inscriptions. It has a grey braided cord.
Ema is a small wooden plaque used at Shinto, and sometimes Buddhist shrines, that worshipers can write their wishes, hopes, and dreams on. Once written, it is hung on a special wooden stand or tree where the kami (spirits or gods) are thought to receive them.
