Vintage Japanese Wooden Storage Box

Wooden boxes are a common method of safely keeping and storing delicate pottery, vases, and other ceramic, clay, and glass items in Japan. In addition to pottery, they are also widely used for a plethora of other traditional Japanese crafts including kimono accessories, wrapping cloths, chopsticks, commemorative gifts, etc. 

This convex-sided square vintage lidded wooden box is likely made for a guinomi sake cup or other small item. The lid fits nicely into the top of the box and has a carving of what looks to be a folded fan. It can also be used for general storage of trinkets or use for display or other crafts/projects.
